Question / Issue
Console port does not respond

Answer / Solution

If the LAN-Cell 2's Console Port is not responding to your terminal connection, check the following:

  • Use the BLUE RJ45 to DB9 serial cable that was included with the LAN-Cell 2.

  • Check the communications settings on your terminal emulation program (e.g. HyperTerm).  The default console port settings are 9600 baud, No Stop Bit, 8 Data Bits, 1 Parity Bit with Hardware Flow Control (9600, N, 8, 1, HW).

  • Some computers and terminal programs do not handle Hardware Flow Control properly. Try using XON/XOFF Flow Control.

  • If you are uncertain as to the Console Port's current communications settings, you can use Telnet to access the SMT via TCP/IP and change the Console Port settings.  Otherwise, perform a hard reset of the device to return the LAN-Cell 2 to the factory default communications settings. You will also reset your other configuration settings.
