| Can I use VoIP / SIP devices with the LAN-Cell 2? |
| Answer / Solution |
 |
Yes, the LAN-Cell 2 3G Cellular Router can support Voice Over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing applications.
Most 3G cellular networks (e.g. EV-DO Rev A & HSUPA) have fast enough speeds and low enough packet latency and jitter to support VoIP calls. 2G networks (GPRS, EDGE, 1xRTT, and the original LAN-Cell Mobile Gateway) generally lack the bandwidth and latency required for adequate voice quality.
The LAN-Cell 2 includes an Application Layer Gateway (ALG) for SIP and H.323 video applications (see ADVANCED -> ALG).
Please contact your VoIP service provider for information about how to configure a NAT/Firewall for operation on their network. Typically, some TCP/UDP ports on the LAN-Cell must be forwarded and firewall rules defined to allow two-way voice or video communications. You may also wish to use the LAN-Cell 2's Bandwidth Management feature to guarantee bandwidth allocation to voice and video applications.
The LAN-Cell 2 has been tested successfully with several different SIP hardware and softphone solutions for both voice and video calls.
