Question / Issue
Verizon USB modems must operate in LAN mode

Answer / Solution

Certain versions of Verizon's VZ Access Manager software set the default operating mode for the USB modem to "Windows Mobile Broadband".  This must be changed to "LAN Adapter" before the modem can be used in the LAN-Cell or PocketPORT.

For the UML290, there is a small utility that will change the operating mode to LAN if you are unable to use VZ Access Manager. Download the utility from here:

If you are unable to force the USB modem into LAN mode, you may need to reinstall VZ Access Manager and install the LAN drivers. See http://vzam.net/uploadedFiles/USB551L_WMB_VPN_ReadMe.pdf for more information.
