Proxicast Adds InterVOLT's Voltage Converters and Power Conditioners To Its Line Of LAN-Cell 3G Cellular Router Accessories

4/10/2009 10:06:34 AM:
InterVOLT 12VDC Power Conditioner for the Proxicast LAN-Cell 2 3G Cellular Router

Proxicast is pleased to announce that it has become one of a select group of authorized resellers of interVOLT's "Mini Series" 24 VDC and 12 VDC isolated voltage converters and power conditioners.

InterVOLT's Mini Series voltage converters and power conditioners are excellent complementary products for the Proxicast LAN-Cell 3G cellular router, ensuring that clean, consistent power is supplied to the LAN Cell for problem-free operation. Proxicast recommends the use of an interVOLT voltage converter / power conditioner in any situation where the LAN-Cell 3G mobile router is connected to an unregulated DC power supply.

Many customer applications require that the LAN-Cell be powered directly from a DC source, such as inside a vehicle (automobile, truck, bus, train, van, boat) or from a telecommunications or control cabinet, solar cell, generator or battery. For the use with the LAN-Cell 3G cellular router, Proxicast is offering the interVOLT model SPCi-121207 for DC supply voltages ranging from 9 to 16V and the interVOLT model SVCi-241208 for DC supply voltages raging from 17 to 33V. These devices protect the LAN-Cell from reverse polarity connections, short-circuit connections, under-voltage, over-voltage, surges, spikes, overloads and high temperatures that can result in damage, unnecessary down-time and costly technician visits to remote sites.

As Cellular Carriers Cap Unlimited Data Plans, Proxicast Introduces Cell-Sentry Cost Control and Bandwidth Management Capabilities for its 3G Cellular Routers

4/1/2008 11:07:00 PM:
Proxicast LAN-Cell 2 Cell-Sentry Cellular Cost Control System

Cell-Sentry is Proxicast's (www.proxicast.com) exclusive new LAN-Cell 2 firmware feature developed in response to recent restrictions and limitations imposed on cellular data plan pricing by many leading wireless network operators.

Cell-Sentry is a watchdog application built into Proxicast's LAN-Cell 2 3G router that monitors cellular usage and alerts administrators via E-mail when a user-defined threshold is reached. It can even block additional cellular usage via hard "not to exceed" limits to avoid overage charges. Cell-Sentry can monitor data or time usage to match the carrier's billing policies.

Proxicast LAN-Cell 2 3G Cellular Router

Even if the user does not anticipate going over their wireless plans monthly allotment, the unique Cell-Sentry feature can protect against "run-away" applications that might utilize excessive amounts of bandwidth or from unplanned users connecting to the device and transferring large amounts of data.

Proxicast's LAN-Cell 2 cellular routers also include several other features that help control cellular data costs.

  • Bandwidth Management The flow of data to the 3G cellular modem can be throttled, restricting the maximum speed to less than the available capacity from the carrier.

  • Dial-On-Demand The ability to make instantaneous 3G connections only when outbound packets need to be routed to the Internet and automatically drop the connection when it is idle.

  • Firewall Rules Using stateful packet inspection technology, administrators can block bandwidth hogging applications such as audio streaming or video conferencing.

  • Keep-Alive Timers The amount of data used to maintain a cellular connection can be adjusted and the LAN-Cell can restart at specific times and stay connected only for a fixed duration.

  • Security Features Unauthorized users can be prevented from accessing the Internet. Unsolicited traffic from hackers can be reduced via anti-probing features and secure user-definable management interfaces.

These data management tools can result in significant savings for users by allowing them to confidently take advantage of cellular carriers less expensive metered data (telemetry) plans often starting as low as $5.00 per month compared to $60.00 to $80.00 for typical multi-gigabyte plans.

Proxicast has prepared an in-depth Tech Note on how to use Cell-Sentry and other LAN-Cell 2 features to manage cellular data costs. The Tech Note is available for download from: http://www.proxicast.com/CellularCosts

Qualcomm Press Release: Earthscope/PBO & Proxicast Win 2004 cdmA-List Award for Innovation

10/26/2004:
EarthScope is a National Science Foundation project to build instruments to study the behavior and structure of the North American continent. The Plate Boundary Observatory, part of the EarthScope project, is a large network of global positioning system instruments and strainmeters that measure the deformation of the North American and Pacific plates.

Objective
Minimize capital expenditures, installation, support and ongoing communications costs; provide a communications infrastructure for thousands of GPS and strainmeter instruments across the western U.S. and Alaska; use a network solution that is ubiquitous and fast, supported by inexpensive equipment that has low power requirements and is easy to deploy and maintain.

Solution Description
GPS sites are connected by the Proxicast LAN-Cell 1x Mobile Gateway to the CDMA2000 1X national network from Verizon Wireless. Where data service is not available, GPS sites are connected to the CDMA2000 1X network by point-to-point RF links.

Results

  • Avoid expense of nearly $1 million per year by eliminating the need for multiple modems and accounts
  • Further scientific understanding of the North American continent
  • Provide faster turnaround of data and analysis to member organizations
  • Increase the data sampling rates at sites, to further improve modeling, analysis and prediction of seismic activity

Proxicast's LAN-Cell Powers Second Consecutive QUALCOMM 3G cdmA-List Award Winner's Wireless Network

10/26/2004:
For the second year in a row, a Proxicast customer is a winner at QUALCOMM's [NASDAQ: QCOM] annual 3G cdmA-List Awards presented during CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2004 in San Francisco. Earthscope/Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) was honored with an Innovation Award for its seismic data collection network deployed throughout the western United States and Alaska that monitors earthquake and volcanic activity.

PBO is installing a network of over 1,000 unmanned locations at which seismic and other geophysical information is gathered using multiple pieces of state-of-the art monitoring equipment. Proxicast's LAN-Cell Mobile Gateway serves as PBO's primary communications device, relaying megabytes of data per station per day back to a central database over Verizon Wireless' NationalAccess CDMA2000 1X network. This data gives scientists an unprecedented four-dimensional view of active plate boundary deformation and helps the natural hazards community better understand earthquake and volcano behavior, including the recent activity in California and Mount St. Helens, WA.
